I’m back in front of the camera
In 2010, after 10 years on the air at The Weather Network, I left my role as an on-air Presenter to take a behind-the-scenes job as Manager to our bureaus and writers. The experience was fulfilling, insightful and gratifying. I worked closely with a high performing team of 17 or so people (depending on how many casual writers we had on our roster at any given time) stationed all across Canada. But now I’m back in front of the camera. Since you’re tuning in to The Weather Network for the forecast and not to hear my life story, I thought it better to explain why I’ve made the switch back in this online post.
One of our goals at The Weather Network is to connect with our audience by providing localized information, perspective and telling stories that resonate with people. You may or may not know that we actually send out many different feeds, or signals, each targeted to different audiences so we can do just that. Along with localization, storytelling has been, and will continue to be, a strong programming focus for us.
With a bit of restructuring, the responsibilities of my former role have been delegated to others which facilitates this new opportunity. I’ll now be on the air Monday to Friday mornings through to early afternoons. I’ll be focusing on how we tell stories and influencing what stories we choose to tell. Being in the thick of things in the newsroom will allow me to have a firsthand perspective that is more challenging to obtain from an office down the hall.
I will from time to time be off shift to sit in on interviews, auditions and air checks. I’ll be working with our on-air talent and contributing to a regular blog. Of course social media is a huge component of how we stay connected to each other so that’s a key part of my new role as well.

It's true. I used to forge my mom's signature to get out of gym class in high school (sorry mom). Fast forward to the late 1990's and I was set to compete in the Miss Canada International competition More ...
It's true. I used to forge my mom's signature to get out of gym class in high school (sorry mom). Fast forward to the late 1990's and I was set to compete in the Miss Canada International competition which included a swimsuit contest. I joined a gym, hired a good but pricey trainer, ate a balanced carb/protein/fat diet and attained a pretty fit body. So much so that I placed third in the swimsuit competition and 2nd runner-up overall. I was sold. I'd never felt better and so began my fitness journey. It was also around this time that I landed a network TV job as a weather presenter. Being on TV is a great motivator to stay in shape as the camera adds 10 lbs. The problem is that I was inconsistent. I would roller coaster. I'd eat clean, strength train, run and work out for say 8 months, then I'd fall off and stay off for 4 months. Then I'd get back on again and feel great for a while. Once I would reach my goal I gave myself permission to fall off for awhile. What I realize now is that I had embraced fitness but not a fit LIFESTYLE. I had my son in 2008 and for the next year as I nursed him I was naturally burning about 300 calories per day without doing a thing. Once he stopped nursing, the weight slowly started to pack on. I'm not a tall person (5'5") so 10 lbs. on me is noticeable. It was also at this time that I took on a managerial role in our company which found me on call 24/7. In late December 2012 I'd reached 137 lbs and knew I had to find my way back to healthy eating and exercise. I was strapped for time so I decided to start with 10 Minute Trainer which got me off the couch. Then I progressed to Chalean Extreme. Then I incorporated Turbo Fire all the while eating small healthy, clean meals every few hours and drinking one Shakeology per day. Four months later, I was 15 lbs. lighter, I could see my abs once again and most importantly I was back on the road to living a fit lifestyle...this time permanently. Now I want to inspire others to do the same.
