ROGERS CUP TORONTO 2013: DRAWS, RESULTS AND ORDERS OF PLAY for Thursday and Friday

SECOND ROUND COMPLETE AT REXALL CENTRE
August 7, 2013
Serena Williams, Li Na, and Marion Bartoli are among the top stars who have advanced into the third round at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank on Wednesday, on a day that saw many talented athletes take the courts in Toronto.
To the dismay of the patriotic home crowd, defending Rogers Cup champion Petra Kvitova ousted the last Canadian standing, Eugenie Bouchard, 6-3, 6-2. It was Bouchard’s second straight year falling in the second round, but in both losses – to Kvitova and to Li last year, the 19-year-old performed admirably against her top-ranked opponent and displayed her immense potential. Kvitova will now advance to take on Samantha Stosur in the third round, after the Australian ousted Carla-Suarez Navarro 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
In a surprising turn of events on Grandstand Court, Sorana Cirstea came back after dropping the first set to upset former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki 5-7, 7-6(0), 6-4. Cirstea saved two match points to pull out the victory, and will now face another former world No. 1, Jelena Jankovic, Thursday afternoon. Jankovic advanced after eliminating Canadian Sharon Fichman, which ended 6-4, 7-6(6) in favour of the Serbian despite an excellent effort from the young Canadian during the second set.
The first Centre Court evening match, featuring world No. 1 Williams and Italian Francesca Schiavone, ended in the American’s favour by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Williams will move on to face No. 13-seeded Flipkens, who ousted qualifier Kiki Bertens 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round.
Ana Ivanovic of Serbia also defeated an Italian player, as the No. 16 seed eliminated Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-4 on Grandstand Court to advance into a third-round battle against last year’s finalist Li.
Li  and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, whose match was delayed slightly due rain, started off the day on Centre Court, with No. 4 seed Li defeating the Russian 6-1, 6-4 in a match lasting just over an hour.
No. 5 seed Sara Errani faced Klara Zakopalova, advancing past the Czech player 6-2, 7-6(2). Errani’s compatriot and doubles partner, Roberta Vinci, also found success today when she defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova 6-0, 6-4.
In her first match of the tournament, Marion Bartoli defeated qualifier Lauren Davis 6-0, 6-3. Bartoli will move on to face Magdalena Rybarikova in the third round, after she ousted Varvara Lepchenko 6-4, 6-2.
Grandstand Court also hosted a match between Russia’s Maria Kirilenko and France’s Alize Cornet, resulting in a 7-5, 7-5 upset win for Cornet over the No. 11 seed.
No. 14 seed Sloane Stephens defeated Germany’s Mona Barthel 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and will now face Agnieszka Radwanska in what will be a thrilling third-round match-up.
