Picasso at the AGO

Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso

    Event Profile
The AGO presents Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris, a collection of more than 150 works from one of the most famous and influential artists, Pablo Picasso. The Musée National Picasso, Paris is home to more than 5000 items from Picasso's collection, but the highlights are touring the world while the museum undergoes renovation. Toronto is the only Canadian stop on the tour, and the final location before the items are returned to Paris. Some of the pieces include The Death of Casagemas, one of the first works he created in Paris in 1901; Autoportrait (Self-Portrait), a 1906 self-portrait;  Celestina (The Woman with One-Eye)  from his Blue period and The Two Brothers from his Rose period; pieces from his work in cubism;  1925’s The Kiss, from his Surrealist period; a series of sculptures created during World War II; and The Matador, the famous self-portrait he painted three years before his death. The exhibit will be displayed chronologically, showing off key items from almost every phase in his extensive and innovative career. Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris will run at the AGO from April 28 through August 26. The collection is open to the general public starting May 1.
